Awareness of the importance of environmental issues become paramount and more central to the thinking of the oil industry and regulators presently. Integration of development and environment approach in partnership with stakeholders is the current trend, in order to achieve sustainable development and protection of the environment.

Environmental management improvement plan is instrument that ensures systematic objectives, which define company’s philosophy towards environmental management. It considers organization and personnel in terms of responsibility, inter-relationships, communications and training of staff in environmental management of their operations in relation to company’s environmental policy performance.

Environmental management programs are enlisted in the plan, in terms of assigned responsibilities, specific goals and methods to achieve goal. The environmental management improvement plan documents environmental procedures, and standards for implementing environmental management operations.

Operational controls are put in place in form of control mechanism and testing, non-compliance and corrective action.

The plan has been designed such that it is revisable and auditable at periodic intervals for effectiveness.

The crucial role of environmental matters in the determination of long term business success has become apparent, especially with recent increased social aspiration and escalated penalties for inadequate performance. To meet the environmental challenge and to comply with the principle so client environmental policy, it is required that companies adopt a systematic approach to environmental management, which is designed to ensure compliance with the law and to achieve continuous improvement. Environmental protection does not come free and so meeting today’s standard cost money. Resources must therefore continue to be provided by managements to enable us sustain environmental awareness campaign, acquire new technologies and push for improved operational environmental practices. This way we shall enable a join industry and regulatory authorities shift from command and control approach to the setting of national fit-for purpose, realistic standards and targets that meet today’s expectations.

JRL is therefore developing an environmental performance framework, which integrates existing quality-based safety management systems, an environmental assessment and health risk assessment into a common integrated HSE management system as recommended by client. The environmental management improvement manual is thus, a strategic tool document to demonstrate and communicate the company’s commitment to manage its business and most importantly the environmental aspects of it in a systematic manner consistent with its policies and business objectives.
